Background:
Coyote Radio is a student-run multi-media lab equipped with a 24/7 radio station on the campus of CSUSB. The Radio Practicum Course offers students the opportunity to learn more about on-the-air radio operation and the promotion of live music events.
Coyote Advertising (the sister department of Coyote Radio) employs Student Assistants to fulfill advertising contracts with CSUSB departments and off-campus businesses by means of graphic design, photography, videography, and social media.
The Problem:
Students run Coyote Radio; they provide on-the-air board operation, brand promotion, social media, and on-site sales. After a semester with a low enrollment rate into the course, the outreach of Coyote Radio to the student population dropped.
Our Focus & Performance:
Our team created a promotional campaign with tabling events, signage, and flyers in an effort to draw in more students. In April, as the semester comes to a close and Fall course selection begins, we hand out over 200 flyers to CSUSB students, while also displaying my advertisements across departments on campus. Our LinkTree (opened when scanning the QR code) received a record-high visit rate during April. Coyote Radio on Instagram also gained more followers.
Lunchtime Live Event:
We utilized our last music event of the school year, Lunchtime Live, to promote the course. I produced an illustrated hand-out flyer for the concert, while the backside displayed course details. Between each concert set, a radio sweeper was played that announced information about the Radio Practicum Course, and how to take advantage of what's offered.
Outcome:
The course was filled to capacity; a waitlist formed. These designs are still used at each event that we host and participate in, serving as eye-catching signage and promotional leave-behinds.
